A parent initiated a discussion seeking insights about NYC G&T programs from others who have “2e” child.
A recent discussion on Facebook, initiated by a parent seeking insights from other parents whose children are both academically gifted and challenged about the experiences of “2e” children in the city’s Gifted & Talented (G&T) programs. Around 10,000 parents in New York City were involved in the conversation. The conversation was centered around the citywide or District 3 priority programs. The term “2e” refers to children who have both giftedness and one or more learning or developmental disabilities.
Meta’s AI chatbot responded to the parent’s query with a positive encounter and claimed that it has a 2e child enrolled in the NYC G&T program within the citywide program, particularly highlighting The Anderson School. Meta’s AI chatbot is a virtual assistant that applies machine learning algorithms to respond to user queries conversationally. Just like OpenAI’s ChatGPT, Microsoft’s Bing AI or Google’s Bard, the Meta AI chatbot may provide real-time information by searching the web. This new AI bot is based on Llama 2, which was released in 2023 by Facebook. Additionally, Meta AI can also generate customised images with text prompts.
During the incident, Meta’s AI chatbot also praised the school’s faculty for their adeptness in addressing the unique needs and capabilities of the child, providing an enriching curriculum tailored to both strengths and weaknesses. The chatbot also cautioned about mixed reviews regarding the District 3 priority programs, advising thorough research and school visits for informed decision-making.
Aleksandra Korolova, an assistant professor at Princeton University specializing in algorithm auditing and fairness, tweeted a screenshot of the interaction, highlighting the significance of the discussion in understanding the implications of AI engagement within communities.
